"Haha, aw, dude! Can't get emotional now. The thing hasn't even started yet!" Pabiro kong sabi.

"Just in case I don't see you later. It's been a true pleasure being your roommate all these years, Nick. I hate to admit it but I'm truly going to miss you bro. Don't you forget about me when you go back to the Philippines!" Paliwanag ni Sebas habang mahigpit pa ring nakayakap.

"Rooming with you has been one of the best things about my Michigan experience, Sebas. I'm going to really miss you, bro. And you better come visit me in the Philippines!"

"Not right now, Nick. Not yet, at least."

"There you are!"

"Prof. Dynarski. I'm glad you could make it to our graduation."

"I wouldn't miss this for the world. I'd like to see my best student go up that stage today."

"Thank you, professor. I wouldn't be here today if not for you and all the other amazing professors who taught me."

"Nonsense. You did it all by yourself. We were all happy spectators of your brilliance. Now, I hope you didn't forget your cords?"

"I have them here."

"Well don't just keep them in your pockets! Put them on and go in front of the line. The march is about to begin!"

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, let us all welcome with a big round of applause, the Graduates of Batch 2003!"

"Thank you for that lively performance! This time, it's my pleasure to introduce to you this year's student commencement speaker, to give his remarks on behalf of the graduating class."

Palakpakan.

"What a glorious day to be with family and friends. I see some of my soccer teammates over there. And Coach Tim! - I see he's also in the crowd." Hiyawan ang mga teammates ko.

"The admin staff are all here. Hello Ms. Mim! Hello everyone!" Palakpakan ang mga staff ng college.

"My roommate - Sebastian - he' over there at the back - dozing off as usual." Tawanan ang audience. Sumipol si Sebas at kumaway.

“Of course, Dean Shapiro, and our favorite professors are all in attendance.” Baling ko sa mag nakaupo sa stage. Palakpakan ang mga graduates at ang faculty.

"And my org-mates."

“All of you — you are all my family. My heart swells with pride and joy that I get to celebrate this day with you. And looking around, I am just as thrilled to see that my fellow graduates all have their family and friends to celebrate this day with them.”

“I wish my parents were here, too.”

“But no matter.” Ngumiti ako at tumingala sa langit. “I’m sure wherever there may be, they’re very proud of, and happy for me. Mom, dad, these honors are for you!” Baling ko sa kalangitan. Palakpakan ang audience.

“I lost both my parents to cancer four years ago. Before he died, the last advice my dad gave me was something that helped me through the hardest days of college, and it’s the advice that I’d like to leave as a message to all my fellow graduates, and to everyone, today: Choose to suffer.”

“Choose to suffer.” Pag-uulit ko. “That’s what my dad said, and to be honest, I didn’t quite understand it then.”

“But I think I understand it now. Our instinct as humans is to preserve our lives, and so we naturally run away from suffering. But we don’t need to look far beyond our college experience to see that the many seemingly inconsequential moments when we chose to suffer in the last four years — those were the moments that brought us all here today.”

“We chose to suffer when we spent all those hours at the gym lifting weights to build our bodies, and outside, playing sports, to become nimble and fit.”

“We chose to suffer when we spent many sleepless nights to prepare for our ridiculously difficult exams.”

“We chose to suffer during the seemingly endless Winter quarters, when it was negative 20 degrees outside and the snow was waist-deep, and we put on our warmest NorthFace gears, and decided to show up to school anyway.” Tawanan ang buong auditorium dahil lahat naka-relate.

“We chose to suffer when we competed against our rival schools, played our hearts out, and still lost.”

“We chose to suffer when we walked up to that one girl or one guy we had a big crush on, and asked them out, knowing that they were in all likelihood going to reject us.”

“We chose to suffer for our friends, when they got piss drunk during a tailgate party, and we cleaned the vomit off their chest and dragged them back to their apartment instead of leaving them wasted on the lawn.”

“We chose to suffer when we all showed up to the Diag on September 11th, 2001, unnerved and heartbroken, but united against cowardly attacks against liberty and democracy.”

“My dear fellow graduates, we chose to suffer. And it made all the difference.”

“Our bodies are stronger and healthier for it. Our minds are sharper and our thoughts deeper for it. Our spirits are soaring high and alive for it. We love and are loved for it.”

“So, as we go on with the next chapter of our lives, let us all choose to suffer. Suffer — not for the sake of suffering — but that we may discipline our mind, body, and spirit, to achieve the good, and then, the excellent.”

“Congratulations to all of us, and Go Blue!”

“GO BLUE!” Hail! To Michigan, the leaders and the best, Go Blue!” sabay sabay na pinag-i-itsa ng graduates ang kanilang mga cap sa ere.

You know that I freaking hate surprises!”

“When did you get here?! Why didn’t I see you in the crowd? And what the heck are you doing here?!”

“Surprise! Haha. I know you hate surprises. But did you really think I’m going to miss the graduation of my best friend in the world?”

“And are you never going to let me go?”

“C’mon. Let’s get outta here before we miss our table at Sava’s.”

“Wait, you made reservations at Sava’s? How?! When?!”

“Let’s just say I’ve done my reasearch.” Pagmamalaki ni Emil. Di pa rin ako makapaniwala.

“Done your research… or hired an accomplice?”

“Haha. Cat’s out of the bag, I guess.”

“So, are we going to eat or not?” Tanong ni Sebas.

“Wait, are you joining us, too?” Excited kong tanong.

“Between Sava’s and dinner with my extended family? Like, duh!” Pang-uuyam na sagot nito.

“And the reservation is for three.” Dagdag ni Emil.

“Aw, you guys. Come here!”

“Haha. All right, enough with the drama!” Pabirong sabi ni Sebas.

“Let’s have a picture of us three taken, and get out of here.” Dagdag nito.

[/info]
